A thought on Social Media while waiting for a haircut

I’m noticing more and more these days that social networking sites are all adopting each others’ best practices. I don’t fault them: LinkedIn wasn’t very engaging, Facebook needed to stop throwing sheep and get serious, Plaxo wasn’t too exciting as a mere Putlook plugin. So now that I “connect” from one to the other with all the same people, at what point do they all become essentially the same? Then what?
